At least two immigrants were found lifeless this Friday in a train car about 20 miles from Uvalde (Texas) and multiple others were rescued with injuries and receiving medical attention, according to local police reports.
Police said Highway 90, where the wagon was found, was closed in both directions while authorities investigate, and that "numerous undocumented immigrants" were injured.
"Medical helicopters are currently landing on Highway 90 (...) due to numerous injured undocumented immigrants inside a train car," the Uvalde Police Department said in a statement.
The victims were part of a group of 12 migrants who were traveling on the train
, police said, quoted by local television station KENS5.
The chief of the Uvalde Police, Daniel Rodríguez, indicated, quoted by the local media, that the discovery was made around 1:30 pm (local time) by Border Patrol agents.
Some of the immigrants were treated at the scene and others were airlifted to a hospital in San Antonio.
The Uvalde Police Department did not respond to questions from Noticias Telemundo about the details of the find, which some local media linked to a train derailment.
