The Mexican actor Xavier López, known for his television character Chabelo, died this Saturday at the age of 88 "suddenly", according to a statement published on his official page on the social network Facebook, due to "abdominal complications".
"This is a very sad morning Xavier López Chabelo, father, brother and husband has left us," the statement added.
"Sad news," said Marcelo Ebrard, Mexico's Secretary of Foreign Affairs, on Twitter, who sent "condolences to family, friends and followers. Rest in peace."
They assure that Chabelo overcame cancer, but will not return to television

In March 2022, Lopez reported that he had cancer and said that he was over it.
"Cancer? Yes, overcome, thank God and the doctors. Out of danger," he wrote on his Twitter account.
López was born in Chicago (Illinois) on February 17, 1935 although his parents are from León, in the Mexican state of Guanajuato.
At the age of one, he returned to his home state, where he lived for his first eight years, before moving to Mexico City.
