“We can confirm 23 dead, dozens injured, 4 missing due to tornadoes last night.

We have numerous state and local search and rescue teams still working this morning.

A number of assets are on the ground to help those who have been impacted," the Mississippi Emergency Management Agency said in a Twitter message early this morning.

The National Weather Service was launching tornado watch alerts on Friday through its Twitter account in the states of Mississippi, Alabama and Tennessee and confirmed that one of them caused damage about 60 kilometers northeast of Jackson, the capital of Mississippi, causing destruction in the towns of Silver City and Rolling Fork and then entering Alabama through towns like Winona and Amory.
