In France, just over one in ten children cannot go on holiday due to a lack of means.
The finding is established by INSEE in its latest report published on March 23.
According to data collected by the statistical institute in 2021, 10.6% of children aged 1 to 15 do not have the opportunity to leave for at least one week a year, including in the family, for financial reasons. .
In addition, 14.7% of children live in households which, for lack of money, have not been able to pay rent, loan repayments or water or electricity bills on time over the past few years. last twelve months.
On the broader daily needs, one child in three suffers at least one deprivation from a list of fifteen elements of everyday life recognized as necessary: having at least two pairs of shoes, eating fruit and vegetables once a day, have outdoor games, age-appropriate books or internet access.
Children and parents, a different degree of deprivation
However, the indicators are positive when we look at their progress over the past twenty years.
Vacation departures are more frequent: in 2009, 17.4% of children could not leave for financial reasons, compared to 10.6% in 2021.
Furthermore, the Institute of Statistics further notes that within the same household, children suffer less from certain deprivations than their parents.
Thus, among the parents who declared that they could not go on holiday for at least one week per year, for lack of means, only one out of two made the same declaration for their children.
