Strictly speaking, the founder of the PRO never had any intention of running for this year's election.
Last year, in the meetings he held in his Vicente López offices,
he himself told his interlocutors
that the economic situation that the next president will encounter would be very delicate and that it would be seen in a much worse context than what he expected for this anus.
His intention, as he said at the time, was to continue strengthening Together for Change to help consolidate the political power necessary to put the reforms that he himself expected on track.
Macri also said that the future, in this sense, is better than the one he found in 2015, when he took office with a very unfavorable situation in Congress that contrasts with the progress that Together for Change had in this area in recent years.
However, that original conviction was blurred when the former president began to gain a presence in the public debate, he returned to lead proselytizing tours that were previously hostile to him and he perceived that his relationship with the people on the street had improved a lot, at the same time that he It deteriorated the popular image of the Frente de Todos government.
Macri noted that this change
gave him more power within Together for Change
and he let go of the rumors that they put him back as a candidate.
"I don't like being promoted to the candidacies, but I don't like being demoted either," he used to say when he understood that he had room for a claim.
That change of heart gained momentum last week, upon his return from a tour of Europe.
When he returned, Macri began to repeat around him that
the decision to get off was not firm

He said he would take a few days to talk to people he respects who have been asking him to play.
He also said that he didn't need polls to decide, but, in passing, he mentioned that those polls were good for him.
Now, Macri understands that letting this rumor grow could harm Horacio Rodríguez Larreta, Patricia Bullrich and María Eugenia Vidal, the three leaders of his party who have already said they want to run for the Presidency.
Both Rodríguez Larreta and Bullrich asked their political boss to clarify it as soon as possible if they were not planning to play,
because this lack of definition prevented them from deploying their preparation to compete or establish agreements and alliances with other sectors of Together for Change for the PASO.
Radicalism has a position if Macri does not play and another if he decides to play, they told him, to give an example.
Even before traveling to Europe,
Macri had a meeting with one of the most important businessmen in Argentina

That businessman, who commands one of the most powerful conglomerates in the country, asked him to define himself, and was also more emphatic: he told him that he would support him if he played.
In his team, in addition, they had the intention that in Juntos Para el Cambio
three things would be clear before the former President stepped down
: that there would be only one PRO candidate for Buenos Aires Head of Government, that it would be clear what role Macri was going to play in the electoral campaign and to determine what the former president was going to do in 2024 if Together for Change returns to the Government.
With that information in his head, the former president decided to make it explicit, with a public statement, that his name will not be on the lists.
