The end of the receipt postponed

2023-03-26T19:12:10.884Z

Thanks to feedback from the field, the office of Olivia Grégoire, Minister Delegate for Trade, prefers to maintain the printing of the receipt for a certain time.

The little piece of paper will still survive for a few more months.

Initially, the end of the systematic printing of the receipt was to occur on January 1, then was postponed to April 1.

On Sunday, the Ministry of Economy and Finance indicated a new shift, "

August 1"

or

"September 1",

due to inflation.

According to Bercy, a new date should be announced at the beginning of the week.

The anti-waste and circular economy law, passed in 2020, provided for ending the printing of receipts at the end of a commercial transaction, unless explicitly requested by the customer, with the aim of reducing waste production.

But “

we consider that the moment is not the right one for the measure to come into force

”, specified the cabinet of Olivia Grégoire, Minister Delegate for Trade.

"

We have feedback from the field, we are discussing with consumer associations, with large retailers, who tell us that, faced with inflation, many French people want to check the accuracy of the amount of the shopping they do",

continues the firm.

From August 1 or September 1, invoices will be sent by e-mail, SMS or QR Code, unless expressly requested by the customer.

Some caveats have already been made.

The preferred solutions should seek to minimise, as much as possible, the collection of personal data, or even avoid it

”, underlines the Cnil.

And, in the event of the collection of contact details, their reuse for commercial prospecting is regulated.

"

The trader must obtain the consent of people or allow them to oppose it, depending on the type of advertising

", completes the Cnil.
