An 89-year-old was found dead in Taura in the district of Nordsachsen after a fire in his apartment.
For reasons that have not yet been clarified, a fire broke out in the pensioner's kitchen on Sunday morning, the police said on Monday.
Accordingly, the senior's 53-year-old son is said to have noticed the fire and tried to extinguish it himself until the fire brigade arrived.
