If the victory, Saturday evening, of Labor in New South Wales, facing conservatives worn down by twelve years of power and exhausted by repeated scandals, was not a big surprise in Australia, few are those who predicted the extent of success.
The counting is not finished in 9 of the 93 constituencies of this state of more than 8 million inhabitants, but the Labor Party already has an absolute majority, led by Chris Minns.
Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, also from Sydney, was quick to congratulate him on his return to power in New South Wales marking a fourth consecutive election victory in two years for Labour, now in charge at the federal level but also from every state and territory of mainland Australia.
The only exception, small Tasmania, the least populated state in Australia (570,000 inhabitants), is still led by the Liberal Party, at least until 2024. A very rare situation…
