During his introductory speech to the council of the metropolis of Lyon which began on Monday, Bruno Bernard, condemned the violence which took place during the recent demonstrations.
The president of the metropolis, very critical of the pension reform adopted last week via article 49-3, denounced "
the thugs from the black blocks, the ultra-right and the ultra-left
".
“
I do not recognize any political significance in them.
They are just thugs who spread violence and attack our Republic
, ”said the elected Europe-Ecologie Les-Verts.
“Violence is unacceptable”
For the latter, "
the ransacking of the town hall of the 4th arrondissement of Lyon
or that of the premises of the tourist office on Place Bellecour is scandalous
", as are "
the threats against deputies, mayors and elected officials who multiply and are inexcusable
”.
“
I refuse to think, like an unfortunately growing part of the population, that violence is a way to be heard.
I deeply believe in democracy, the Republic and debate.
Whatever our political differences may be, being elected is a commitment to serving the collective.
If the criticism of elected officials is legitimate, the violence is unacceptable
,” he concluded.
Last Thursday, during the demonstration against the pension reform in Lyon, 58 police officers and nine demonstrators were injured and 11 people were arrested.
