A call to the Erlangen police caused astonishment on Saturday.
A man from Cologne told the officials that he was in distress off the Dutch coast.
Erlangen – An officer from the Erlangen Police Inspectorate took a call on Saturday afternoon (March 25), which caused great astonishment.
"A 53-year-old from Cologne reported to her, whom the officer could hardly understand due to the deafening noise in the background," the police said on Sunday.
"Seenotruf" ends up with the Bavarian police: the officer reacts in the right way
The man tried to make it clear to the officer that he would be in distress at sea in the company of several people in the Dutch North Sea area.
In fact, strong wind and wave noise could be heard during the conversation.
The Erlangen police then alerted the Dutch coast guard with the presence of mind.
And probably saved the life of the anglers, as it turned out later.

90 minutes later the feedback came: What the man had described was true.
Some people had been in acute distress with a so-called "belly boat" (a type of fishing boat) in the area of a cliff.
"They couldn't have saved themselves on their own," police said.
Coast Guard can rescue anyone
All of the casualties were rescued by the Dutch coast guard and remained practically uninjured.
According to the police, why the caller's smartphone connected him to the Erlangen-Stadt police station due to his voice command "emergency call" remains "a secret".
