"Guest villainoooooooooo... César Romero, as The Joker!".
That's what the announcer said at the beginning of a new chapter of the beautiful, lysergic and pop version of
Batman
in TV series mode.
Years?
End of the '60s.
Today he'd say, "Guest Villaineeeeeeeeeeeeee...Lady Gaga!"
Perhaps what is funnier than a clown?
Two, sure.
Hence Joaquin Phoenix's
Joker
is going to have criminal company for
Folie à Deux
, with Lady Gaga joining the sequel for a role that is reportedly
a version of Batman villain Harley Quinn
.
New photos from the production have emerged, revealing Gaga's wardrobe and makeup for the film.
The photos appear to show a large crowd, with Gotham police officers escorting Gaga's character to a government building.
Extras dressed as protesters gather around the star, holding signs with messages like
Free Joker, Justice 4 Joker, Joker Marry Me
and
No Justice Not Guilty Not Joking.
Among the crowd are a handful of
colorful clown wigs and masks
, of course.
It's not that Lady Gaga is sorry, it's that she's filming "Joker: Folie a Deux" in New York.

Gaga's wardrobe designed by Oscar nominee Arianne Phillips
falls somewhere between the heightened sensibility of the comic book source material and the twisted aesthetic of the first
Joker
film .
While
Gaga has yet to be officially confirmed to be playing Harley Quinn
, the scarlet jacket and diamond-print top would certainly suggest so, not to mention the romantic messages between protesters and the clown makeup on Gaga's face.
"Happy Valentine's Day," reads Phillips' brief caption on Instagram.
The image marks the public's first look at Gaga in the film.
Gaga also shared the image on her own social media.
Hit it with the look
This isn't the first look at Gaga from the set of
Joker: Folie à Deux
.
On Valentine's Day, director
Todd Phillips shared an image of Gaga and Phoenix in a romantic embrace
.
That official image was a tight close-up, instead with these new photos that have been taken public and, of course, gone viral,
they present a different look at Gaga's character.
Phillips' original Joker
was a commercial success and
became the highest-grossing R-rated film of all time
.
At the 2020 Academy Awards, the film scored two wins: Phoenix for Best Actor and Hildur Guðnadóttir for Best Original Score,
among a whopping 11 nominations.
Speculation surrounding a sequel quickly took hold.
Although the landscape of DC Comics has changed dramatically in recent months,
Joker 2
has remained largely untouched by the newly formed DC Studios and its co-heads James Gunn and Peter Safran.
The Joker
sequel
will not play a role in the narrative continuity of other upcoming DC movies.
At this point, a no less question is: but when can we finally see these two vectors of evil together on the screen?
Although there have been many rumors regarding the release date of this second part, the concrete thing is that, so far, from Warner, the studio in charge of the production, we will only be able to see it in October of next year.
More precisely, the 9.
