The prefect of the Rhône, Fabienne Buccio, condemned the degradations committed this Sunday in Rillieux-la-Pape, in the northern suburbs of Lyon, where the flames of burnt garbage cans spread to the canteen of the Alagniers school.
Two vans and around twenty firefighters intervened, rue Boileau, around 6:30 p.m., in the 200 m2 building adjoining the school.
The mayor of the town, Julien Smati (LR), assures that these degradations follow the arrest of a young man, a little earlier in the afternoon, in this district classified as a priority for city policy. .
"He's the leader of a well-identified band of thugs in the neighborhood, and as the leader was caught, the band reacted,"
comments the city councilor to Le

.
Rubbish bins were piled up against the school and set on fire, the fire spreading to the interior of the canteen.
The mast supporting a surveillance camera was also sawn with a grinder.
“This extremely effective camera greatly annoyed these thugs

Cold meals for children
If the canteen building was relatively spared, the smoke left traces of soot, especially in the kitchen, leaving it unusable.
This Monday, the children received cold meals.
The next few days, they will go to lunch in the canteens of other schools.
Repairs should take several weeks.

We are in one of the poorest neighborhoods in France, where the median income is 8,000 euros per year
, deplores Julien Smati.
The canteen is sometimes the only place to find a balanced meal for these families
