Where would be the ideal location for a central hospital?
This was examined in a study.
The results were kept under wraps for months and have now been presented to the district council.
District – Secret classified information since November, now suddenly public: At the request of Alexander Majaru (SPD/Schongau), the result of the Clinotel study was surprisingly published in the district council.
The working group of municipal hospitals was commissioned last year to examine four possible locations for a new central hospital and to check their suitability.
Shortly before the results were available, the referendum came.

Central Hospital: Property costs were not examined in the study
So now the Clinotel managing director Udo Beck was connected to the district council via video chat and presented the results.
He acknowledged that one criterion was not checked - the cost of the property.
After the referendum was approved, it would not have made sense to talk to the property owners about possible purchase prices, according to District Administrator Andrea Jochner-Weiss.
The property costs are largely irrelevant anyway, Beck explained in his presentation.
A total of eight criteria were examined and weighted differently in the evaluation (see table).
Particular attention was paid to two points: Firstly, the catchment area.
The aim here was that as many parts of the district population as possible should be able to reach the hospital within 30 minutes.
Peißenberg in particular was able to score massively (see maps).
In addition, special attention was paid to where the best opportunities exist to retain the workforce and recruit medical specialists.
Here Weilheim was ahead, Peißenberg just behind.

In the end, the result was very clear.
While Peißenberg would be by far the most suitable location for a central hospital, according to the study, with the two locations in Weilheim securing second and third place, Schongau is far behind in last place on the Clinotel list for locations.

What does that mean now?
First of all, nothing.
According to the district administrator, the 500 million euro new building of a central hospital is "off the table for the next few decades" after the referendum.
The gain in knowledge that was associated with the presentation of the study for the district councilors is also limited.
Because it was not said exactly where the examined locations were.
In Schongau, the city communicated very offensively and publicly that it was going into the race with the existing location and surrounding properties.
It has not been said which property was examined in Peißenberg.
There was also silence as to which two properties were examined in Weilheim.
District Administrator Andrea Jochner-Weiß only made it clear that the location of today's Weilheim hospital had not been examined.

Central hospital: Peißenberg's mayor angry
In the subsequent debate, Alexander Majaru demanded that the study should be completed after all.
That was not effective, replied Clinotel boss Udo Beck.
On the one hand, the study is 96 percent complete, on the other hand, the new building on the green field is off the table anyway.
In addition, it is not practicable to talk about prices with the property owners if they already know that you do not really want to buy.

Otherwise, the people of Schongau were annoyed that the reactivation of the Fuchstalbahn was not taken into account in the transport connection - the study only included what already exists and can be used, not what could possibly come again.
Peißenberg's Mayor Frank Zellner (CSU), however, expressed frustration that the central hospital should not be built: "This is the second study after the Roeder report, which makes it clear that Peißenberg is the ideal location for a hospital in the district," he said firmly.
