The Guardia di Finanza of Savona has arrested three Albanian citizens aged 33, 28 and 23, all residing in Pisa, who were caught recovering a load of 83 kg of drugs hidden in a container of bananas deposited in the customs area of the port of Vado Ligure (Savona). The container, which arrived on board the "Wybelsum" from Tangier (Morocco), with a load of bananas from Ecuador, was identified by the Savonese financiers, assisted by officials of the Anti-Fraud Department of the customs, during the ordinary monitoring of maritime trade flows involving the port hubs of Savona and Vado Ligure, aimed in particular at transnational shipments of goods from geographical areas considered "at risk".
The container, once disembarked from the ship, was subjected to a thorough inspection,
Subsequent investigations by the Economic-Financial Police Unit and the Savona Group made it possible to identify the three who were caught tinkering with the container.
They were immediately blocked by the financiers and arrested on charges of drug trafficking: they are now in the Marassi prison.
The drug, about 83 kilograms of pure cocaine, divided into 72 pats, was seized and placed at the disposal of the judicial authorities.
Further investigations are underway aimed at identifying the recipients of the huge consignment of drugs which, placed on the retail market, would have yielded over 7 million euros.
"Today's seizure - comments the Guardia di Finanza - adds to the similar results recently obtained by the Fiamme Gialle, which confirm the attention of criminal consortia towards the Savona ports, considered privileged gateways for the introduction of drugs into the territory national".
