The earth shook in Charente-Maritime.
A magnitude 3.9 earthquake hit the south of the department on Tuesday, March 28.
The first tremors were felt at 3:34 p.m., according to the French Central Seismological Bureau.
The epicenter of the earthquake has been identified north of Royan, about twenty kilometers from the town of Saintes.
So far, no material or human damage has been reported.
According to the BCSF, the magnitude is too low to cause a real danger.
Since the end of the Second World War, Charente-Maritime has been the victim of around fifty earthquakes.
