Tensions between China and Taiwan continue to smolder.

Experts have now simulated a military conflict between the states.

Washington, DC - Can Russia's invasion of the Ukraine war bode ill for the China-Taiwan conflict?

This fear is particularly prevalent in the West.

For this reason, the US think tank “Center for Strategic and International Studies” (CSIS) has carried out a simulation of a Chinese attack on Taiwan.

One finding sounds troubling: "An inaugural bombardment destroys most of Taiwan's navy and air force," says the 156-page report.

This scenario could become reality within a few hours if China attacks.

Chinese Taiwan invasion: US think tank describes 'most likely scenario'

However, the experts at CSIS assume that a Chinese invasion would most likely fail extremely quickly.

Despite a heavy Chinese bombardment, Taiwan would have an easier time on land than the Chinese troops.

This is due to the fact that the "invaders are having trouble establishing supply chains and moving inland."

Meanwhile, American submarines, bombers and fighter jets could attack the Chinese fleet, CSIS says.

Japanese forces would also take part in the defense of Taiwan.

According to the researchers, however, the necessary prerequisite for the occurrence of this scenario is: "Taiwan must defend itself".

The country must not capitulate before US units can be mobilized.

Irrespective of this, a war between the nuclear powers China and the USA would be a high-risk scenario.

China and Taiwan: USA do not assume imminent danger

Meanwhile, Taiwan's President Tsai Ing-wen is scheduled to meet Speaker of the US House of Representatives Kevin McCarthy.

Tsai Ing-wen will visit New York and California on a trip to the United States, which caused resentment in China, as the

reports: "We firmly reject any form of official interaction between the United States and Taiwan," said Beijing.

According to official American information, there is currently no acute danger of an attack.

Intelligence director Avril Haines said recently that the United States does not assume that China wants to go to war.

Nevertheless, China is primarily destabilizing trade in the region.

It is well known that Beijing does not recognize the sovereignty of the island state.

US in China-Taiwan conflict: Politicians could 'create self-fulfilling prophecy'

However, there has also been criticism of the American approach to the conflict between China and Taiwan: "If Western politicians keep talking about the risk of a Chinese invasion of Taiwan, they could inadvertently create a self-fulfilling prophecy," says Jessica Chen Weiss, professor of China and Asia-Pacific Studies at Cornell University,
