The trial of two baker brothers, accused of having stabbed a burglar who had entered their shop in Montmartre, opened on Tuesday before the Paris Assize Court.
Geoffroy and Thibault Tordeux, respectively aged 33 and 34, prosecuted for "
violence resulting in death without intention to give it
" appear free under judicial supervision.
They each face 15 years in prison.
Several stab wounds
In May 2017, around 3:30 a.m., the two brothers, who worked in their bakery, had surprised a burglar trying to open their cash drawer after having forced the door of their shop with a jack.
According to the prosecution, the two brothers would have armed themselves with a knife to scare away the burglar before pursuing him in the street.

The victim, a 40-year-old man previously convicted of burglaries, was found fatally injured from multiple stab wounds on the sidewalk near the bakery.
The two brothers had themselves called the police.
During their hearings, they had explained that they did not intend to kill the burglar but only to scare him.
The trial is scheduled until Friday.
