During a raid in the southern district, customs investigators confiscated a considerable collection from a 62-year-old gun enthusiast.

A large part, including even fully automatic submachine guns, had apparently been acquired illegally.

However, there are no indications of connections to the Reichsbürger scene or to extremist circles.

District – It was a tip from a partner agency that put the Munich Customs Investigation Office on the trail: A 62-year-old from the district of Garmisch-Partenkirchen was suspected of illegally ordering an assault rifle on the black market abroad was smuggled into Germany.

What the investigators then found during a search of the apartment and a barn of the man with German citizenship exceeded all their expectations.

Because they not only found the assault rifle in question, but a veritable arsenal with a total of 61 long and handguns, including submachine guns, assault and repeating rifles, pistols and revolvers.

There were also various spare parts and a whopping 6500 rounds of ammunition of different calibers.

There was no gun license for this either.

The action, in which specialists from the district office also took part, took place on March 8, as reported by the customs investigation in a press release.

The exact locations where the weapons were stored are not revealed.

There is official talk of the southern district.

According to Tagblatt information, it should be a place in the Isar valley.

Bavaria: submachine gun from Wehrmacht times

The explosive thing about the matter: The officials have apparently lost a gun fanatic who has allegedly built up an unusually extensive collection, including many historical models, for example from the Second World War or the post-war period, outside of the law.

He only legally owned 22 of the said items (20 long guns and two pistols).

Another 39 were unregistered.

This included, for example, the MP40 submachine gun used by the Wehrmacht - a fully automatic weapon, possession of which is forbidden.

(By the way: Everything from the region is now also available in our regular GAP newsletter.)

In addition, the specimens were not stored properly and securely so that third parties could not get hold of them.

For this reason, the officials secured all the material.

Experts now have to clarify whether the rifles and pistols, especially the older models, are still functional and whether they may have been involved in a crime.

"It's time-consuming," announces Christian Schüttenkopf, spokesman for the customs investigation office.

So far, only four decorative weapons have been found that have been rendered unusable.

Schüttenkopf's colleagues and the Munich II public prosecutor investigate.

It is about violations of the Weapons Act and crimes under the War Weapons Control Act.

No connection to the Reichsbürger scene

So far, it has been assumed that the 62-year-old posed no danger, as Schüttenkopf explains.

"There is no reference to the Reichsbürger scene," says the spokesman.

Not even on an extremist background.

One thing is certain: the 62-year-old has to face a trial in court – and possibly even a prison sentence.
