The Government has appointed Elena Valenciano, deputy secretary general of the PSOE between 2012 and 2014 during the leadership of Alfredo Pérez Rubalcaba, as elective adviser to the Council of State.

The Council of Ministers has approved his appointment for a period of four years within a remodeling, agreed between socialists and popular, in which Pedro Sanz (former president of La Rioja for the PP), Juan Carlos Aparicio (former Minister of Labor and former mayor of Burgos of the PP) and Francisco Javier Losada (former mayor of A Coruña of the PSOE and former delegate of the Government in Galicia).

Soraya Sáenz de Santamaría, Juan Carlos Rodríguez Ibarra, José María Michavila, María Emilia Casas, Elisa Pérez and Jordi Guillot have renewed their role as elective directors in the institution chaired by Magdalena Valerio.

Amelia Valcárcel, Juan José Laborda and Juan Antonio Ortega y Díaz-Ambrona leave the Council of State.

The last renewal of the highest consultation body of the Executive, agreed between socialists and popular, was closed in recent days.

The interlocutors, according to sources familiar with the conversations, were the Minister of the Presidency, Félix Bolaños, and the general secretary of the PP and spokesperson in Congress, Cuca Gamarra.

The election of Valenciano carries enormous symbolism for the PSOE, since it supported Susana Díaz -like the majority of the party

establishment-

against Pedro Sánchez in the 2017 primaries. Since then she has remained apart from the front line of Spanish politics, although in recent months she has once again gained a presence since the presidency of Fundación Mujeres as a benchmark for feminism in the midst of the debate that generated the processing of the

trans law

and the approval and current reform of the law that

only yes is yes.

MEP between 2014 and 2019, Valenciano did not repeat in the lists of the PSOE to the European Parliament in the current legislature.

Her experience in Brussels dates back to her first period in the European Parliament between 1999 and 2008. From this year until 2014 she was a deputy in Congress.

Her international profile led the Henry Dunant Center for Humanitarian Dialogue to sign her on as a senior advisor.

One of the conditions that she Valenciano put a month ago, when the Government proposed to her to enter the Council of State, was to be able to continue practicing at the Henry Dunant Center.

Her status as her elective director is compatible with the work she carries out in the organization based in Geneva (Switzerland).

Another socialist, the former Minister of Health María Luisa Carcedo, has left the act of deputy in Congress after her appointment as permanent adviser to the Council of State, because both positions are incompatible.

The Asturian parliamentarian, one of Sánchez's mainstays in her re-election in 2017 by the PSOE bases, replaces Adela Asua, who has resigned.

Carcedo will preside over the ninth section of the organ.

Permanent directors are exclusively dedicated, with a total annual remuneration of 124,858.58 euros.

The elective directors can combine their responsibility in the Council of State with their professional performance in other functions.

They receive a maximum monthly salary of 974.16 euros, which is not received if there is no plenary session or if they do not attend, as shown on the institution's website.
