The Knesset plenum today (Tuesday) approved in second and third reading the bill that will expand the right of police officers to search a house or building without a court order, if it is suspected that an illegal weapon is present there.

The law, which was promoted under the pressure of the Minister of National Security Itamar Ben Gabir and submitted by MK Yitzhak Kreuzer from his faction, will also allow the confiscation of photos from security cameras without a warrant.

The goal of the law is to act to reduce the number of illegal weapons used by criminal organizations or those that exist in the Arab sector.

A search without a warrant will only be possible after obtaining the permission of a police officer of the rank of superintendent or higher.

Some members of the opposition supported the bill even though they admitted that it has "very serious tools" to fight against illegal weapons, but nevertheless the bill was approved as a temporary measure for a period of one year only.
