Two people were injured in an explosion in a family home in Ingelheim on Tuesday.
The building collapsed, a police spokeswoman said.
"The house is completely in ruins," she said.
The police are currently assuming a gas leak caused by construction work in front of the building.
Two construction workers were taken to the hospital with minor injuries.
Ingelheim – A resident of the house was buried in the rubble, but was able to be rescued unharmed by the fire brigade, the spokeswoman said.
It will continue to be searched for leaking gas, the surrounding buildings have been cleared, it said.
According to the spokeswoman, around 80 residents initially had to leave the area.
