After the cancellation of King Charles's visit to France due to a strike, the British sovereign's three-day German stopover, which began in Berlin on Wednesday, seems to serve as a catch-up session.
Even if it had been planned for a long time, supposed to follow the Parisian tour, this is how many Germans perceived the presence of the monarch in front of Brandenburg Square in the company of the President of the Republic, Frank- Walter Steinmeier.
The latter paid military honors to his host: the first time that a State guest has benefited in this place, formerly a symbol of the partition of Europe, from such a mark of distinction.
“Today, six years after Great Britain began its departure from the EU, we are opening a new chapter in our relations,”
welcomed the German head of state.
