Netanyahu: Out of national responsibility, I decided to suspend the legislation in order to reach a broad consensus (Leam)
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu met this evening (Wednesday) with Economy Minister Nir Barkat, against the background of the dismissal of Defense Minister Yoav Galant.
Netanyahu announced Gallant's dismissal on Sunday, but had not yet sent the official dismissal letter, so they did not take effect.
Senior officials in Likud and the coalition are putting pressure on the prime minister to reverse the decision and keep Gallant in his position, and are trying to mediate between the two, who have not discussed the issue since Sunday.

In the meantime, Netanyahu is holding a round of meetings with senior Likud officials such as Barkat and Avi Dichter and is considering appointments to the position, and the name of Minister Israel Katz is also still coming up as a possible candidate.
According to Likud sources, Netanyahu is considering appointing an acting minister of defense, for a period of three months only, and is examining which of the party's senior officials will agree to be appointed on a temporary basis.
