A retirement home is being converted, and a container facility is being built in Dachau.
The district is struggling with the accommodation of more and more refugees.
District administrator and several mayors are now looking for help in Berlin from Friedrich Merz.
Dachau – Friedrich Merz did invite, but the federal chairman of the CDU welcomes “the whole municipal family – across Germany and independent of any party”.
For this reason, in addition to CSU district administrator Stefan Löwl and the CSU mayors Christian Blatt from Erdweg, Markus Hertlein from Hilgertshausen-Tandern and Richard Reischl from Hebertshausen, the free voter mayor Michael Reiter from Altomünster and Löwl's deputies Marese Hoffmann (Greens ) and Martina Purkhardt (Free Voters) to Merz' "Municipal Summit on Asylum and Refugee Policy" in Berlin.
District Administrator Löw travels to Berlin in the hope of finally tackling the issue with the necessary seriousness
Löwl hopes to be able to convince those responsible in Berlin with his colleagues of the "acute need" of the district.
The federal politicians, according to Löwl, should “finally approach the issue with the necessary seriousness and also the will to make substantive and locally noticeable corrections”.

Refugees in Dachau: the district is reaching its capacity limit
Because the fact that the rural districts are gradually reaching their capacity limits should not come as a surprise to any federal politician – regardless of party persuasion – in view of the latest refugee numbers (see table).
Furthermore, a bus carrying 50 refugees arrives in the district every two weeks.
After the previous initial reception center in Hebertshausen had been overcrowded for weeks, the gymnasium on Steinstrasse was - as reported - converted into refugee accommodation.
According to the district office, only Ukraine refugees are accommodated there, which is why new solutions are needed for refugees from other countries.
Occupancy of other gyms is “currently not planned”
According to district office spokeswoman Sina Török, this solution at the moment consists of the district converting the former Esterhofen retirement home into accommodation for 80 people.
In addition, a new container facility for 200 people is to open in Dachau in the summer, not for 300, as the district office had initially announced.
Further container facilities are to follow: in Altomünster, in Hilgertshausen-Tandern and in Sulzemoos.
When the latter three accommodations should be ready for operation, spokeswoman Török cannot yet reveal with reference to contract details.
After all: The occupancy of other gyms is “currently not planned”.

The district had already contacted Berlin with a call for help in February.
"Our hearts are big, but capacity is limited," Indersdorf's mayor Franz Obesser wrote at the time.
There was never a reaction from the capital.
CDU chairman Merz described this behavior of the federal government towards the "overwhelmed" municipalities as "more than disappointing".
