It seems to me, however, that our misfortune comes from further afield.

We are experiencing a real crisis of public decision-making, driven by a devastating hyperindividualism.

This crisis feeds on two main ingredients: a fragmentation of the social body exacerbated by an aggressive networking of all expectations that prohibits compromise;

a deleterious climate of insubordination which results in a general delegitimization of the institutional authorities and the procedures of representative democracy.
