Alarm in Novara and in the surrounding area due to the fire that broke out in the chemical company Kemi,

which processes chemical solvents, in the industrial area of

San Pietro Mosezzo

, on the border with the capital of Novara.

The fire is "practically tamed", says the commander of the local police of Novara.

However, the cloud of black smoke still remains.

In the industrial area on the outskirts of Novara, fire-fighting vehicles from the Cameri military airport, the fire brigade, Arpa and Italgas and Acqua NovaraVCO intervened due to possible problems of network pollution.

In Novara "the Municipal Operations Center (Coc) was opened as a precaution. - informs the Municipality -. The volunteers of the Civil Protection are moving to inform and communicate to the citizens".

The mayor of Novara, Alessandro Canelli, had invited all citizens to keep the windows closed and not to leave the house "unless strictly necessary".

Meanwhile, the very first surveys carried out by Arpa (Regional Agency for Environmental Protection) in the area around the company fire did not reveal any dangerous situations.

In addition to the Fire Brigade, two Arpa teams intervened on the spot, one from Vercelli and one from Novara, who are assessing the impacts on the water and atmosphere.

The first measurements by Arpa were carried out using portable instrumentation to check the values of carbon monoxide, formaldehyde and hydrogen sulphide.

The Arpa teams are carrying out further analytical checks on the quality of the

air and on the management of extinguishing water.

Arpa "is in close contact with the Prefecture of Novara and with the mayors of the Municipalities of Novara and S. Pietro Mosezzo for emergency management".

The explosions heard in the first moments of the explosion would be due to blown manhole covers.

About fifty people worked in the chemical company

, when the fire broke out there were about thirty,

all managed to save themselves

.

"It's a slaughterhouse, the whole shed has exploded, it's all burned," says a woman on the square in front of the factory in a video shot by an employee.

The company's emergency plan was immediately activated, it was learned in San Pietro Mosezzo, and this made it possible to evacuate the entire factory.

The fire in San Pietro Mosezzo (NO) is being extinguished.
