Great success thanks to oatmeal: a Berlin start-up has achieved this.

And with that, it is now even competing with fast-food giants like McDonalds.

Berlin – Sometimes a very simple basis is enough for great success.

This shows the history of the Berlin start-up Haferkater.

As the name suggests, everything there revolves around oats.

The focus at Haferkater is to offer people a healthy snack - especially in places where fast-food giants like McDonalds and Co. are usually popular.

That is why the three Haferkater founders Leonardo Burguete, Anna Schubert and Levin Siert have focused particularly on train stations.

More sales per square meter than McDonalds: small shops make it possible

The franchise company now sells porridge at 19 locations throughout Germany.

Put simply: oatmeal.

This consists only of oats, water and a pinch of salt.

If you want, you can spice it up with numerous toppings such as fruit.

And that's exactly what seems to go down well with travelers.

Haferkater achieves external sales of around 11 million euros, as reported by the

Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung (FAZ)

.

With this sum, the Berlin breakfast porridge start-up even competes with the really big ones.

According to the founder Burguete, Haferkater branches sometimes make more sales per square meter of retail space than a McDonalds branch thanks to the simple food concept, as he

explains to the

FAZ .

After all, no complex kitchen is required for the production of the porridge.

Only a so-called oat crusher is the heart of every shop.

Haferkater: Up to 1.5 million euros in sales per branch possible

Depending on the location, sales of up to 1.5 million euros can be achieved with the simple breakfast dish.

In comparison, the investments for taking over a branch of 200,000 to 300,000 euros are not too high.

As a result, Haferkater experiences a veritable rush of franchisees.

But the founders are picky here.

"Anyone who only wants to invest and ends up not being in the store is not the right place for us," Burguete made clear to the newspaper.
