The corona pandemic has hit many retailers hard.
Now it has caught the well-known shoe chain Reno.
Munich – The shoe retail chain Reno is bankrupt.
The District Court of Hamelin opened preliminary insolvency proceedings on Tuesday, reports Wirtschaftswoche in its online edition.
Around 1,000 employees are affected by the move.
According to the company, Reno currently operates around 180 branches.
The submitted insolvency application therefore only affects the German branches - not the sister companies in Austria and Switzerland.
In Germany, the company is number 2 behind Deichmann.
The online shop could not be reached on Wednesday morning.
The wave of bankruptcies in retail continues.
Several retail chains had filed for bankruptcy in recent months.
Peek & Cloppenburg only got caught at the beginning of March.
The clothing retailer is looking for rescue in the protective shield procedure.
Shoe retailers were recently hit by two other industry giants, Görtz in September 2022 and Salamander in December.
To justify the development, industry experts refer to the aftermath of the corona pandemic and online trading.
In addition, the high inflation is now putting pressure on many consumers' willingness to spend.
