The Syrian government news agency announced tonight (Thursday) that explosions were heard around Damascus.

The Syrian media claimed that this was an "Israeli act of aggression".

According to the report, Syria's air defense systems were activated.

The last time Israel was accused of an attack in Syria was eight days ago, when the international airport in Aleppo was attacked.

Syria's Ministry of Defense claimed that Israel carried out the attack, and noted that damage was caused at the site.

This is the third attack on the port in six months attributed to Israel, which has not responded to the reports.

According to the Syrian Ministry of Defense, at around 4:00 a.m. missiles were launched from the direction of the Mediterranean Sea, west of the city of Latakia.

Earlier, explosions were reported in and around Aleppo, an area where there is a large presence of pro-Iranian militias.

Since last year, attacks in Syria have focused on the main airports, including the capital Damascus, through which Tehran tries to deliver weapons to the Assad regime and Hezbollah.

A week earlier, it was claimed that Israel attacked several targets in the Masyaf area in the Hamat district and in the Tartus district in the west of the country.

The attacks, which were unusually early in the morning, were carried out from Lebanon's airspace and Syria claimed that the air defense systems intercepted some of the missiles.
