The major construction site for the subway is picking up speed.

The dimensions of the future Martinsried underground station can already be seen in the west.

The shell construction work for the tunnel is also scheduled to start there in late summer.

Martinsried

– The symbolic ground-breaking ceremony for the one-kilometer extension of the U 6 from Großhadern Clinic to Martinsried was almost eight weeks ago.

Since then, a lot has happened.

"I'm impressed by what you can already see," said Mayor Hermann Nafziger on Wednesday at the press conference on the construction site.

And Dimitri Steinke, Managing Director of U-Bahn Martinsried Projektmanagement GmbH & Co. KG (PMG), explained: “The celebratory act does not stand alone, but was the initial spark.

We transitioned seamlessly into implementation.”

2000 bored piles

The excavation pit widens to the west, where according to current plans the Martinsried underground station is to start operating in 2027.

The hole there will be up to 50 meters wide.

And ten meters deep.

Further to the east, the construction site is narrower, especially to the east of the street Am Klopferspitz, the space is tight, so that the excavation pit is sealed off by bored pile walls.

A total of 2,000 bored piles are set, spaced 75 centimeters apart and up to 25 meters long.

Excavators and drills cause noise and vibrations.

“The major construction site cannot be silent.

We're not yet able to simply beam the entire tunnel into the ground.

Like Scotty on Captain Kirk, it won't work.

There will be noise, there will be shaking.

Our goal is to ensure as much as necessary and as little as possible in terms of inconvenience and stress for the residents,” says Steinke.

PMG and the project management of Leonhard Weiss GmbH are in contact with the institutes of the research campus, which are located to the left and right of the construction site.

A first meeting in the construction container has already taken place, and more are planned at regular intervals.

Not only laboratories and scientists should be taken along, but also the citizens.

Part five of the comic "U 6 - Light in the Underground" by the Planegger artist Mike Maurus deals with the start of the construction phase.

There is also a U 6 tab on the municipality's website, www.planegg.de.

If you click on it, you will not only find an overview plan and picture gallery, but also a three-month plan that is regularly updated.

It states which heavy construction equipment is used when in which construction phase, when the explosive ordnance investigation is due and when and where a bored pile wall is to be built.

Questions will be answered at U6@planegg.de.

"95 percent of the problems arise from a lack of communication," says Steinke.

He would like to spare the "transport policy lighthouse project" U 6 extension.

That is why there is an intensive exchange and short decision-making processes on the construction site.

Former gravel pit

Even if Leonhard Weiss GmbH has experience with large infrastructure projects, project manager Jörg Wüst said: “It is important to always approach such projects with a certain humility.

You need respect for the task.

We know very well that we will still be dealing with the former landfill.” The future subway route crosses a backfilled gravel pit over a length of 500 metres, starting at the end of the existing site on Elisabeth-Stoeber-Strasse in the Munich city area and ending at the Greenhouses of the Ludwig-Maximilians-University, west of the street Am Klopferspitz on Planegger Flur.

It should be completely cleared out by the beginning of next year.

A special approach is required on the Klopferspitz itself.

"That's the first thing we tackle," says Wüst.

In order to keep it passable throughout, the tunnel cover to the west is to be produced in summer and the road to be swung over it.

As soon as the cover is finished on its original route, the road will be returned.

The cycle and footpath connection from Martinsried in the west to the Klinikum Großhadern in the east is guaranteed throughout, the detour is paved.

According to Wüst, the whole of 2023 will be characterized by the construction of the excavation pit and its excavation.

“The shell construction will start on a really grand scale in September.

That will increase significantly at the beginning of 2024, 2024 and 25 are the shell years.”
