This is the second time in ten years that two French State bodies, the National Institute of Statistics and Economic Studies (Insee) and the National Institute of Demographic Studies (INED), have delivered an analysis on the evolution of religions in France.
The first survey, "Trajectories and origins" on the first and second generation immigrant population, was conducted from 2008 to 2009. It is now supplemented by a second of the same name, this time conducted from 2019 to 2020. These studies allow to grasp the evolutions of the French religious field, a subject that always stirs up passions.
First lesson: the wearing of the veil by Muslim women is constantly on the rise, with an increase of 55% in ten years.
Between the ages of 18 and 49, the proportion of those who wear it rose from 18% to 28%.
It is in populations of sub-Saharan origin that this practice has progressed the most, having more than doubled (from 12% to 28%).
