Senate: with an anti-regulatory maneuver, Kirchnerism seeks to avoid a tough defeat

2023-03-30T02:13:11.267Z

The Presidency called a session for today at 12. But the attribution was taken to unify three different requests.

The ruling party in the Senate designs new strategies so as not to give up.

After the failed agreement attempt at the meeting of the heads of the bloc, the presidency of the Senate took the responsibility of unifying the three requests for sessions requested by different blocs (Federal Unity, Together for Change and the Frente de Todos) and summoned the body for this Thursday at 12 with a broad agenda, which concentrates all the required topics, and more.

The background fight is clearly not the agenda, but who has the key to the Senate.

The opposition was willing to make a show of force and open the venue without the FdT, but the ruling party is looking for a way to block that possibility.

In the opposition, they point out that the movement of the ruling party is

anti-regulation

, but they also weigh the desire to approve the issues they requested.

Therefore,

they will wait until minutes before the session to define their strategy.

"It is clear that if we hold sessions it is because we ask for it. But if we allow the ruling party to return the rules to do what it wants again, it is a bad precedent," said a JxC legislator and assured that they are talking to move " in tune" with the Federal Unity bloc.

The call to the session was made by the provisional president C

laudia Ledesma Abdala

because

Cristina Kirchner

is replacing

Alberto Fernández

in the Executive.

The president is required to call any special session requested by five or more legislators.

Article 20 stipulates that "after receiving the petition, she will order the respective summons for the day and time that she deems best, if the body has not indicated them, depending on the matter or the circumstances of the case."

That is why in the opposition they remember that the procedure is "

unregulatory"

.

"These are different sessions and mixing the issues is denying the right to that minority to set an agenda

," says a senator with experience on the issue.

From the Front of All they defend themselves: "We do not have a majority so

we put everything to the will of the body. They can vote what they want

".

As

Clarín

announced, after the two opposition requests - made last week - the Frente de Todos requested its own session on Tuesday, for the same day and time as the one requested by Together for Change, but with an expanded agenda .

without white smoke

The Parliamentary Labor meeting called by the ruling party was intended to reach an agreement to achieve a single consensus session.

But there was no white smoke and each one insisted on their request.

Jose Mayans, Anabel Fernández Sagasti and Juliana Di Tullio participated in the meeting, representing the Frente de Todos.

For Together for Change, Humberto Schiavoni, Luis Naidenoff, Alfredo Cornejo, Carolina Losada.

From the Federal Unit block, Guillermo Snopek from Jujuy and Alejandra Vigo from Cordoba.

The senators who have monoblocks also participate: Clara Vega and Alberto Weretilneck.

The two sessions requested by the opposition coincided in proposing the treatment of only 6 judicial documents -

for Rosario and Córdoba - and the Lucio Law.

The Federal Block also added Edgardo Kueider's project to reduce VAT on electricity rates that does not even have an opinion.

The FdT left those issues but also incorporated others.

Although

in the call to the session, strikingly, some of the requests by the ruling party were not included.

The issues that were finally added are the Zero Alcohol law, the National Congenital Cardiopathies Plan law, the exemption from earnings for health personnel, a Parrilli project for the creation of a University of Mothers of Plaza de Mayo, the law promotion of Nursing, and the modification of the protection system for people with disabilities.

The Senate has not met since mid-November.

At the time, Mayans was planning to call a session at the end of February and the day before,

four legislators from the bloc fled.

The shock forced a change of plans.
