The 2022 Telethon raised 90.8 million euros for research on rare genetic diseases, its best result since 2016, the organizers of the charity marathon welcomed on Thursday March 30.
At the end of the operation, on December 2 and 3, the meter was temporarily stopped on just over 78 million euros collected.
But the public still had the possibility of donating later, which made it possible to arrive at the final sum of 90,839,067 euros, or 5.7% more than last year, specified the AFM-Téléthon in a communicated.
The 2022 edition, sponsored by comedian Kev Adams, was able to return fully to the field after two years marked by the Covid epidemic.
"Thank you so much !"
“
This tremendous result, the best since 2016, shows how much the French are in solidarity with the fight of families.
Thank you so much !
“, writes the association.
After the first advances, for example against immune deficiencies, the work funded by the Telethon targets more complex pathologies, such as neuromuscular diseases.
Three years ago, a treatment for spinal muscular atrophy, a disease which condemned babies to an early death, was thus put on the market.
Beyond rare diseases, which affect approximately 3 million people in France, the innovations resulting from research supported by the Telethon also inspire therapeutic solutions for widespread diseases, such as neurodegenerative pathologies or cancers.
The 37th Telethon will take place on December 8 and 9, 2023.
