YKR (the unit for medical cannabis) defined in procedure 106 of the Ministry of Health what are the indications that allow the use of cannabis. The indication is a disease or medical condition recognized for the use of cannabis, and under it there are certain conditions that must be met in order to obtain a license for medical cannabis. Among the recognized medical indications for obtaining a license can be named : Chronic pain, inflammatory bowel disease such as Crohn's or colitis, cancer patients, infectious diseases, endometriosis, fibromyalgia, multiple sclerosis, Parkinson's, Tourette's syndrome, epilepsy, patients suffering from post-trauma, patients with autism over the age of 5, as well as relief for terminally ill patients.

Contacting a doctor

If you meet the list of conditions for obtaining a license for medical cannabis, the next step is to find a doctor who has the authority to issue the license.

You can contact a doctor within the framework of public medicine authorized by YKR to issue a license for cannabis (for the list of doctors on the website of the Ministry of Health). Alternatively, you can contact a doctor (in public or private medicine) who specializes in the disease you suffer from so that he can submit an application to YKR.

It is important to go to the doctor with your medical file detailing the treatment history relevant to the medical problem for which you are seeking cannabis treatment.

If you have come to a doctor authorized to issue a license and he decides that you do deserve to receive cannabis, he will issue the license for you on the spot.

The payment for issuing the license is NIS 278 per year.

Even if you have to renew the license several times in the same year, the price is one-time per calendar year.

The validity of the license varies from disease to disease, and the license must be renewed accordingly.

If you have come to a specialist doctor who recommends cannabis treatment, he will submit an online application for you along with the required documents such as a summary of medical information from a family doctor or a medication dispensing report from a health fund.

If additional documents are needed, you can upload them to the system yourself.

The application will be examined by YKR and the answer regarding the receipt of the license will be sent directly to you and the attending physician. If the answer is negative, you can contact another doctor and hope for approval from YKR.
