What will become of the parcel post hall?

Citizens can submit ideas until April 6th - and many have already done so.

Local residents talk about their wishes.

But there is also criticism.

Munich - An Internet forum in which citizens can use computers comfortably and under guidance?

Or would you prefer something more outlandish: a concert hall, a cinema or a multifunctional area?

What will it be like in the future in the old parcel post hall in Neuhausen - the residents have been asked and they have responded in abundance.

A decision has to be made slowly, because the four-week participation process ends on Thursday, April 6th.

Parcel post - soon to be the contact point for book fans and creative people?

The head of the neighborhood meeting, Clara Jung, invited all residents to an exchange on Wednesday.

Helmut Gaber (65), pensioner from Neuhausen-Nymphenburg, also took part in the discussion.

Because he lives near the listed, around 20,000 square meter mega building.

Its use is an essential part of an overall project in Neuhausen.

This includes above all the construction of two 155 meter high towers.

The hall is still used by the post office as a mail center.

As is well known, this should become a meeting place for all Munich residents.

In 2024, the post office will move to a new building in the Germeringer industrial area north.

However, the opening of the new parcel post hall is not expected before 2028.

Workshops, hanging gardens and a fitness trail are under discussion

Back to the neighborhood meeting place: one resident said she could also imagine an Internet forum.

"A branch of the city library in the parcel post would also be nice - maybe both ideas can be combined." And another neighbor suggested a graffiti wall on which the citizens could let off steam creatively.

"I would also be happy about an exhibition area," added Gaber.

He hopes that hobby artists like him can exhibit their work - cheaply and easily.

If you also have a suggestion, you can submit it online on the platform https://allefuerdiehalle.de.

There are already many wishes to read.

These include: a playground, workshops, hanging gardens, a fitness trail and food stalls.

Anyone who has received the documents for the collection of ideas by post can hand them in to the Neuhausen district library (Nymphenburger Straße 171b).

This is followed by a multi-stage process in which it is checked what can be implemented (see info box below).

Citizens' initiative criticizes participation procedures for the project

Because the proposals must fit into the existing plans for parcel post.

For example, a stage is planned.

Investor Ralf Büschl’s group of companies bought the site from Swiss Post in 2018.

However, there is also criticism of the participation process, for example from the citizens' initiative HochhausSTOP.

And as is well known, there is also a citizens' initiative against the construction of the towers.

Signatures are collected for this.

The ideas for the hall: This is how they are developed further

Final spurt!

Because on Thursday, April 6th, the collection of ideas for the parcel post ends.

After that, you can vote online: The two-week phase in which citizens can rate the proposals starts on Monday, April 24th.

They should comment on what they think is good - and what they can't even imagine.

A jury will then evaluate the best proposals (taking the public vote into account) by the end of May.

The next step is a design camp from July 10th to 14th.

In this kind of creative think tank, the idea generators get support from experts.

They help to turn impulses into concrete designs.

The next phase is then scheduled to start in August.

Landscape architects work the drafts into a concept for the hall.

Finally, the best suggestions are presented again.

But there's no date for that yet.
