70 exhibitors with over 800 training occupations on offer presented themselves at the Schongau training fair.

Everyone wanted to recruit trainees and fight against the impending shortage of skilled workers.

Schongau – Whether trade, industry, health care, services or public service: exhibitors from almost every area were represented at the fair.

At the various stands, trainers and trainees provided information about the diverse professional opportunities of the respective company.

In addition to background information, the exhibitors had also prepared all kinds of activities for visitors, from the wheel of fortune to VR glasses and photo booths.

This creativity also impressed district administrator Andrea Jochner-Weiß (CSU), who was pleased that the training fair could again take place in person and no longer online after three years of a Corona-related break.

"It's just a huge difference when you can talk to people personally," says Jochner-Weiss.

The shortage of skilled workers is affecting companies in the region

Helmut Pößniker from the Hochland company and Anton Eirenschmalz from the machine and metal construction company of the same name in Schwabsoien also shared this joy.

In addition to their respective companies, the two represented the information circle of the economy in the Schongau area.

Roland Streim, Managing Director of the District Craftsmen's Association Oberland and its guilds, also visited the training fair.

In addition to Jochner-Weiß, Schongau's second mayor Daniela Puzzovio (ALS), Altenstadt's mayor Andreas Kögl (CSU) and Peiting's mayor Peter Ostenrieder (CSU) were there as representatives of local politics.

The latter was responsible with his company "Ostenrieder Design & Marketing" together with Alexander Berndt for the coordination and implementation of the training fair.

During the joint tour, the local politicians learned, among other things, that the shortage of skilled workers is also having a huge impact on companies in the region.

"Really bad" was the answer from the Boneberger butcher's shop when asked how things looked with young people.

However, it could not be due to the payment: “It is above the collective bargaining agreement,” emphasized the employees present in an interview with the local newspaper.

It is much more due to the often unpleasant working hours for young people in this profession.

"I'm interested in training or a voluntary social year in the care sector"

The Boneberger employees regretted the relatively low level of interest in an apprenticeship in the butcher's shop, because butchers, specialists in food technology and butcher's salespeople are all exciting and creative professional fields.

In addition, the direct customer feedback on one's own work is very enriching.

There is also direct feedback as a nursing specialist at the Ecumenical Social Center Oberland.

"The interest in an apprenticeship or a voluntary social year in the care sector is definitely there," summed up the head of the nursing service, Astrid Graf.

Nevertheless, you can also feel the general shortage of skilled workers at the social center.

That's why the focus is all the more on attracting trainees, as Graf emphasized.

In order to continue to be attractive for trainees, the Penzberg company "Roche" has recognized the importance of the topic "work-life balance".

"The accompanying circumstances are now even more important to many than the payment," explained trainer Florian Engbrecht.

That's why "Roche" offers its employees, among other things, flexible working hours, an in-house fitness center and discounts on lunch.
