Whether for swimming, diving or surfing - the Maldives are always worth a trip.

The capital, Malé, boasts a bustling fish market, restaurants and shops along Majeedhee Magu main street, and the 17th-century Friday Mosque, a mosque carved from white coral.

Maldives vacation: choose the right travel time

We'll tell you when the best times for your vacation are there.

Because that also depends a bit on what kind of holiday you want to enjoy there.

The weather in the Maldives

With an air temperature of around 30 degrees Celsius and an average water temperature of 28 degrees Celsius, the island state offers almost perfect conditions every month.

The spring months of March and April are the hottest of the year.

Temperatures are now reaching 32°C to 35°C.

When the monsoon changes in April, it often becomes windless and oppressively humid.

The risk of rain is also increasing – the southwest monsoon is just around the corner again.

The rainy season is between May and October, when showers, storms and thunderstorms can be expected.

But mostly the showers are short-lived and the sun comes out again after a short while.

In winter in the Maldives - perfect conditions for a beach holiday

If you love the blazing sun and high temperatures, the best time to travel to the Maldives is from January to March.

During these months, the sun shines an average of eight to nine hours a day.

Temperatures of 30 to 32 degrees Celsius and a moderate wind offer the perfect conditions for a relaxed holiday on the beach.

Dive into the Indian Ocean - best from autumn to spring

The Maldives is one of the most beautiful destinations in the world for divers.

During a liveaboard you can see a variety of sea creatures such as turtles, manta rays, whale sharks, reef sharks and other tropical fish species.

Diving and snorkeling enthusiasts prefer the months of November to April.

The water is particularly clear in November, when underwater visibility of up to 40 meters prevails.

Not for the faint of heart: professional divers deliberately come to the Maldives during the rainy season to observe whale sharks and manta rays up close.

Let yourself be carried away: ten beaches that are among the most beautiful in the world

The rainy season is popular with surfers mainly because it is windier during the southwest monsoon season on the Maldivian islands than during the northeast monsoon.

A dream for surfers and kitesurf fans.

Another big advantage is that the beaches are not overcrowded with bathers during this period.

Especially in the rainy season you have the waves all to yourself and you are not restricted on the water by swimmers.
