100 days in the Ministry of Health and Welfare: Deri's spirit prevails - and everyone is waiting - voila! news

The chairman of Shas entered the Ministry of Health as a "half-minister" until he was disqualified by the High Court. Since then, there is an acting deputy, and the presence of the new-old CEO Bar Siman Tov does not help the ministry that has been pushed into a corner. At ease, a sense of optimism prevailed from the introduction of Yaakov Margi to the position - but he also managed to disappoint

The Ministry of Health has never been considered a desirable ministry among politicians and in the current government it became a consolation prize for MK Aryeh Deri after Bezalel Smotrich insisted on the finance portfolio. The Shas chairman did not agree to appoint one of his faction's members as Minister of Health, but wanted two halves of portfolios And so, when the health system needs to recover from the corona and receive a serious push from the government, it got a half-time minister. 100 days later - the health system was desperate for a half-time minister, but remained without a minister at all. In the last three months, the Ministry of Health has been forced to deal with political issues that constantly excite him against his will.

After Minister Deri and Deputy Minister Moshe Arbel trained staffs and bureaus for them and their assistants, they left because of the High Court's decision to disqualify the chairman of the Shas, and so Arbel also left his position. In their place came the acting Minister of Labor Yoav Ben Tzur, who avoided showing his face in the office In order not to harm the honor of the chairman of his party. Even at the opening of the new "Safra" children's hospital in Tel Hashomer, Ben Tzur ducked out during the speeches so that they would not see that the Minister of Health did not come up to bless on the festive day.

The downside was not long in coming, especially in the budget debates.

There is no doubt that the new-old CEO Moshe Bar Siman Tov is experienced and professional, but it is also clear to all Swedes that he has not been able to bring achievements, and it is not his job either. At the beginning, the Ministry of Finance asked to give an addition of less than a billion shekels, and only after the intervention of Deri, A budget of close to 4 billion was promised, 2 billion less than what he promised when he took office. Thus, the Knesset member who put the ministry in a spin that he refused to let go - managed at the last moment to become today's savior. After that, the Ministry of Health had no choice but to issue a

statement Officially in which he thanks Deri for his contribution to the success. The senior officials of the office say that Deri's spirit is constantly hovering within the walls of the office, and everyone knows that it is not worth making him angry, but everyone also understands that he stabs them far behind.

Later, the Ministry of Health is required to give its opinion on the sour cream law.

Although the law deals with hospitals, it does not have the taint of medicine, so the ministry tried to avoid expressing an opinion or an official response as much as possible, but its senior officials worked behind the scenes to ensure that the law would be quite relaxed and would not drag the hospital managers into unnecessary corners.

Finally, he managed to walk between the drops, being careful of Deri's nose on the one hand and trying to help the managers on the other.

Among all these political events, the Ministry of Health also takes care of health.

Deri's decision to extend the work of the Corona Task Force until the end of the month was desirable and good, but in the face of polio, the ministry finds itself powerless in the face of a population that refuses to be vaccinated and is even hostile to its approach. For a whole year, Israel has been unable to recover from the plague of polio because they are unable to mobilize the citizens to be vaccinated for the sake of its eradication.

The rest of the things are done in the dark and in rooms, with no one to be held accountable. The discussions on the reform in the health professions and reducing the need for academic studies are done without the people in the field and prepare the ground for the law promoted by the ultra-Orthodox factions. Even in the outline for the medical interns, discussions were held with the Treasury without organizations The interns and the decisions undercut the previous agreements promised to the interns.

The ministry, without an actual minister, continues to work due to inertia and the excellent professionals who work in it, but it does not have a leading policy figure, it does not have a finger at the government table in its favor, and thus it is slowly being pushed into a corner.

The main issues are waiting for Deri to return, until then all the ministry and public health are on hold.

Ministry of Welfare

Compared to the Ministry of Health, the Ministry of Welfare has stability and a very involved minister.

Sometimes it seems that Minister Yaakov Margi gets down to too small details when he is busy for a long time with public inquiries or specific events, instead of outlining a policy.

On the other hand, Margie is a pleasant person who knows how to work with a wide variety of people and reach broad agreements.

Even in this office, Deri's spirit prevails and exists.

Already in the first weeks, the chairman of Shas asked Minister Margi to fire the then CEO of the ministry Sigal Moran. Moran sent a letter to the ministry's employees in which she claimed that the minister had explicitly told her that Deri did not want her to continue in her position, and this despite the fact that she had no replacement. Margi decided to appoint The Deputy Director of Human Capital Management of the Ministry of Welfare - Yanon Aharoni, to Acting Director General of the Ministry until a permanent Director General is found.

His entry into the position seemed promising, especially in the field of people with disabilities and special needs.

Minister Margi said that he is obliged to release to the general public the conclusions of the committee established by his predecessor, MK Meir Cohen Mish Atid, to examine the difficult cases in "Bnei Zion" and "Beit Dafna", where three patients died. Margi wanted to change the previous policy to stop procrastinating on the issue, but in the end he also plastered over the issue quite blatantly.

The report came out marginally and casually, without the possibility of asking the judge appointed to head the committee questions about the conclusions.

The report states that the committee could not deal with the events at these two locations because of an ongoing police investigation, however the police investigation in Beit Dafna was closed without anyone being found guilty or suspect in the death of the three. The report dealt with the new and important law for people with special needs and marked a target for another five years of a total exit from institutions to the community.

Margie's avoidance of harming the operators of these institutions and the fear that it was discovered that there was negligence that caused death, caused the minister to make the committee toothless and without any meaning.

Margie claimed that he would be the voice for the underprivileged, but when they needed him the most - he also silenced them.
