Belarra follows the path of Iglesias and accuses Yolanda Díaz of not being "fully committed to unity"

The general secretary of Podemos claims the coalition government as a "success" of its formation: "It is our heritage"

Ione Belarra, general secretary of Podemos, has accused Yolanda Díaz, leader of Sumar, on Tuesday of not being "fully committed to unity" and has been "concerned" by the fact that the second vice president does not consider a failure that a unity agreement is not reached with the purple formation.

"Yolanda has to clarify if she wants to be the unit's candidate, that ball is in her court", stressed the Minister of Social Affairs, who has insisted that Podemos should not "play a secondary role" in the political space of the left that Sumar intends to unite with the left of the PSOE or in the next legislature, a project that he launched last Sunday with a dozen parties, but without Podemos.

Belarra has claimed for United We Can the fact that a coalition government could be formed with the socialists.

"The coalition is a success for Podemos, it is our heritage", he stressed this Tuesday morning during an interview on RNE, after clarifying that he would not leave the Executive in the event that there is no agreement between Podemos and Sumar for the general elections from December.

Belarra's statements follow the path of those of Pablo Iglesias on Monday, for whom it would be "an electoral and political tragedy" if Sumar decided to go to the elections without Podemos, whose leadership did not attend the launch of Díaz's political platform last Sunday in Madrid.

Two days after the absence of Belarra and the leadership of Podemos in the Díaz act on Palm Sunday, the minister wanted to assess during the interview the role played by Podemos in the Government of Pedro Sánchez and the need to reissue the coalition after the next general elections, if the numbers of the votes give.

But she, above all, has insisted on claiming a "relevant and leading role in the next legislature of Podemos", which goes through a pact with Sumar and her leader and partner in government, about whose commitment she has cast doubts.

"I aspire to close a unity agreement to reissue the coalition government," she said.

Yolanda Díaz's candidacy shakes the political board

Belarra has appealed to close "a unity agreement" with Yolanda Díaz as soon as possible, but assures that she does not see the second vice president of the Government predisposed to do so.

“I am concerned about the fact that Yolanda Díaz is not fully committed to unity, because Podemos has always been, […] I am concerned that there is no such commitment, because we have already experienced this and it is bad news for the left that we cannot close a unity agreement”, he insisted.

Of course, she has clarified that she is committed to Galician politics to lead the lists: "Podemos has already said that she wants Yolanda Díaz to be the candidate, but if we want to transform reality, Podemos must be there."

The leader of Podemos has questioned Díaz's statements for EL PAÍS in which he believed that it would not be a failure not to close a pact with the formation founded by Pablo Iglesias, who appointed Yolanda Díaz as his successor in La Moncloa.

In the conversation with this newspaper, the second vice president made it clear that "a Sumar without Podemos would not be a failure at all."

“Citizen movements are decided by the people, and I know that Sumar is going to be the revulsion of Spanish politics at this time.

I have it very clear ”, specified the promoter of the new platform.

This position worries Belarra: "It worries me that [Díaz] says that it would not be a failure, because I believe that it would be."

In her understanding, the vice president is letting herself be carried away by the "media related to the PSOE", which she, she affirms, is telling Díaz "that she can shoot alone,

that he can shoot without Podemos…”.

And he adds: "There is a debate about the role of Podemos in the next legislature, which many colleagues say is secondary, but I think not."

Belarra's concern is the same as the day before Pablo Iglesias had shown during an interview on RAC-1.

If they want to go alone, which is legitimate, because they believe that Podemos subtracts and does not add up, they should say so.

We see that the Sumar parties are positioning themselves that it is better to go without Podemos and I believe that this is a mistake, ”he said.

Shortly after, he insisted on Canal Red: "The statements today to EL PAÍS —saying: 'With Podemos or without Podemos this is the same thing'— are irresponsible."

Government partner

During the interview they asked him if he was speaking with his partner in government, with whom he has a meeting of the Council of Ministers today.

"We do talk, but this has nothing to do with personal issues, but with the PSOE, which does not want a partner like Podemos to its left," she opined.

And if there is no agreement, would the purple ones leave the Sánchez Executive?

“Nothing happens to recognize the differences, to make visible that we have different ways of doing politics.

People know what Podemos is and what it is for ”, he has proclaimed.

Belarra has claimed for Podemos the "success" that there has been a coalition government, but has assured that he wants more: "The coalition is a success for Podemos, the only force that said that we had to govern.

The coalition is our patrimony.

The elections had to be repeated four times for us to reach the current coalition government, with great courage on the part of Podemos”.
