Yolanda Díaz's candidacy shakes the political board

2023-04-04T05:15:28.197Z

The PP recognizes that the vice president can mobilize the left, but believes that above all she will take away the PSOE's vote, while the Socialists try to row to reach an agreement with Podemos

The candidacy of Yolanda Díaz for the presidency of the Government under the new brand of Sumar has shaken the political tableau, and the expansive wave of the electoral proposal of the most valued politician in Spain, according to the CIS, reaches beyond the electoral space of the left.

The rest of the parties have analyzed the possible consequences of the launch this Sunday of the second vice president of the Government in the race for La Moncloa, aware that any movement of pieces in the electoral competition has potential effects on the rest.

The PP, which leads the majority of voter intention polls, recognizes that Díaz can mobilize the left, which appeared in unmotivated opinion studies, although it believes that the vice president will subtract the PSOE's vote above all;

Díaz's bet still presents important unknowns -the main one, whether or not he will reach an agreement with Podemos- to gauge its impact on the board, but the party command centers have already taken note of some novel features of his political project.

Above all, the change in style that Díaz presents with respect to Podemos, as a friendlier and more dialoguing left, which opens the door for it to have the capacity to penetrate a more transversal electorate than that exclusive to the space to the left of the PSOE.

The Socialists are the main ones concerned about the transformation of their adversaries in the progressive space and welcome the fact that the Labor Minister's project has been launched, arguing that the organization of all the brands to their left allows them to add up and can revalidate the progressive government coalition.

The concern in La Moncloa is that in the end an agreement between Díaz and Podemos will not be possible and the division will penalize their electoral options, which is why the socialist sector in the Government is trying to row for them to agree.

"It is very good news for Spain, for our country and for all progressive voters that all those various political forces that are to the left of the PSOE organize and go together for the elections," defended the Minister of the Presidency on Monday, Felix Bolanos.

“It would be even better news if all political forces without exception were united.

That would be our wish, ”he acknowledged while trying to pressure Podemos to agree to an agreement.

The Socialists celebrate the commitment of the Minister of Labor because they believe that this way they will have more options to re-edit the coalition government, according to the messages that they have adduced after the act of launching Díaz.

“Yesterday [por el domingo]”, Bolaños celebrated this Monday, “was a day for progressive voters to have the illusion that there will be one more legislature of social advances in Spain and that there will be one at the hands of Pedro Sanchez”.

This analysis includes the space that La Moncloa gave to Díaz in Vox's motion of no confidence.

However, in the PSOE there are also doubts about the impact of the vice president's project on her own electorate, who could be attracted to a figure with whom she has many more points in common than her predecessors in Podemos, such as Pablo Iglesias, Irene Montero and Ione Belarra.

The president of Castilla-La Mancha, Emiliano García Page, has given voice to these doubts by acknowledging, this Sunday in an interview in

La Razón

, that it could happen that Díaz also stole voters from the Socialists.

"I know people who right now are hesitating between voting for the PSOE or Yolanda Díaz at the national level," warns the baron.

That is the main thesis of the PP, that Díaz could end up being a problem for the PSOE, because his less skewed proposal also competes for the electorate more centered on the left.

The popular deny being concerned that the second vice president could be a more competitive rival than her predecessor, Pablo Iglesias.

“A candidate who is vice president of Sánchez and who is a member of the Communist Party of the PP does not worry at all, as you will understand.

Who should be concerned about the break that she can make is Pedro Sánchez.

Be careful with the white markings.

And to Pablo Iglesias, who was his political father and today he has his week of passion”, stressed this Monday the PP campaign spokesman, Borja Sémper, who also influenced the division between Díaz and Podemos to wear down the Executive of Pedro Sánchez.

But in the leadership of the PP they also recognize that Díaz's candidacy can act as a shock and mobilize the left, which until now appeared unmotivated in the polls, which could pose a problem for the electoral expectations of Alberto Núñez Feijóo.

Although they maintain that the friendly proposal of Galician politics also runs the risk of leaving the electorate more inclined to the left by the wayside.

"Is the rupturist left of 15-M, anti-capitalism, going to mobilize with the

chuli

left of Yolanda Díaz?", they ask in Genoa, where they also call attention to the fact that Sumar is "devaluing the brand of Podemos" with the dispute over its integration, when it is Podemos ―and not Sumar―, who is going to present himself in the regional and municipal elections in May.

The PP rubs its hands at the possibility that a puncture by Podemos in May could earn the right more regional and local governments.

"What is going well for us is that Díaz and Podemos fight," they admit at the PP headquarters, precisely the scenario that the partners that make up the progressive coalition in La Moncloa try to avoid at all costs.
