: "The negative facts are evident for everyone"
Update April 4, 8:12 a.m.:
Our survey on a potential rental scooter ban in Munich ended this morning with a clear vote.
A whopping 88 percent of the more than 6,000 participants agreed with the following statement: "They (the scooters, editor's note) increase the danger on the road and are constantly in the way." Only ten percent were against an inner-city ban, two percent contained itself.
Confronted with the poll results, Munich's Lord Mayor Dieter Reiter is not very surprised.
"The negative facts are very evident for everyone: Many e-scooters, for example, lie across the sidewalk and thus become a dangerous obstacle, especially for visually impaired people," explains the SPD politician on request.
Can the people of Munich soon vote on a rental scooter ban?
Reiter refers to the legal situation: “A referendum can only focus on what the municipalities can decide.
It is therefore not possible on the basis of the currently applicable legal regulations.”
Should Munich stop e-scooter rentals?
The result of our poll
Update April 4, 9:10 a.m .:
He was "grateful to Paris for this criticism," said Munich Mayor Dieter Reiter in relation to the ban on rental scooters decided in the French capital (see original message).
The SPD politician warned that users of the speedsters should finally recognize "how important it is to be considerate and that it depends on them whether the e-scooters in Munich have a future or not".
Mayor Reiter on the future of e-scooters in Munich: "Have already led to serious accidents"
Complaints about dangerously parked e-scooters and drivers who are using them on the sidewalk or in the pedestrian zones reach him every day.
This has already led to "serious accidents".

As a result of the Paris decision, Reiter also made providers responsible: "In Munich we have agreed framework conditions with the providers and created our own parking spaces for e-scooters, especially in the old town - so please only park here," he said.
How Munich's mayor will react to the result of our survey?
Already on Monday there was a clear trend towards a ban.
Ban on rental scooters also conceivable in Munich?
Original message:
Munich – “From September 1st there will be no more rental scooters.
This is a victory for local democracy,” Anne Hidalgo sounded almost euphoric.
Shortly after it became known that the mayor of Paris had achieved one of her major goals: the e-scooter ban in the French capital.
Would something like that also be conceivable in Munich?
The runabouts in Munich didn't always have an easy time.
The city has already taken initial measures to prevent the uncontrolled parking of rental scooters.
Wildlife parkers are now being asked to pay their dues.
Many people in Munich were initially overwhelmed by the rules that actually apply to e-scooters - especially with regard to the alcohol limit.

Paris Mayor Hidalgo attributed her hard line primarily to the increased risk of accidents.
In 2022, there were over 400 collisions in the French capital involving e-scooter pilots.
In Munich, too, the police have already warned: "Many e-scooter users are apparently not aware that e-scooters are not toys or sports equipment, but motor vehicles." Quite a few residents of the state capital look at the rental vehicles on the other hand, as a meaningful contribution to the mobility revolution.
The public survey on the possible ban on rental scooters in Paris delivered a clear result: almost 90 percent voted in favour.
However, only around 100,000 of the 1.3 million eligible voters took part;
this corresponds to the miserable share of 7.5 percent.
From September 1st, Parisians will still be able to cruise along the Seine on private e-scooters.
