I am particularly delighted to announce that all fundraising resources have been mobilized since this morning.

said Mahel Coppey, vice-president of the Nantes metropolitan area in charge of waste, during a press briefing organized on the subject of the next metropolitan council.

Since March 30, the collection has resumed but until then, disturbances remained topical on certain sites.

This Wednesday, the staff is no longer on strike, the trucks are circulating, the waste treatment sites are open and 767.5 tonnes of waste have been received.

On Wednesday morning, the two ALCEA incinerators and the Mauves meadow were unblocked smoothly by the gendarmes and the police.

If at the end of the day, the Nantes trash cans had been picked up normally on the usual Wednesday sectors, “

everything will not be settled in three days

”, specifies the elected official.

While waiting for a return to normal and to declutter the sidewalks, “

I solemnly ask all residents to take out their garbage cans on the scheduled collection days

,” adds Mahel Coppey.

The city of Nantes produces approximately 1,200 tonnes of waste per week: thus,

“the rounds cannot absorb all the waste presented in view of the volumes that have accumulated

”.

Overtime has also been activated for garbage collectors.

The metropolis has also called on private service providers in the markets and near nursing homes to prevent unsanitary conditions and avoid the proliferation of pests.

A return to normal... but for how long?

I remain cautious about the rest of the days to come.

This strike is the result of a national mobilization which is not over

”, warns the elected representative of the metropolis, implying that blockages could again disrupt the functioning of these advances.

Tomorrow is another day.

Especially since another strike began at the start of the week, this time in the south-east of the Nantes conurbation, where waste management is done via a service delivery system.

In the context of a market renewal, a succession problem causes an internal conflict.

Towards a refund of the household waste collection tax?

Tuesday, in a press release, the right-wing opposition asked once again

"that the tax for the removal of household waste be reimbursed to homes in Nantes Métropole"

.

“We are in action.

Our subject is to find solutions because our city, we like it beautiful and clean.

[…] I am still surprised to see not a word of support for those who we all applauded at the time of the Covid, on the front line.

Really seriously, the Nantes opposition considers that garbage collectors, cashiers, nursing assistants, can work two more years without consequences?

We obviously have a disagreement on this subject, ”

replied the president of the metropolis and mayor of Nantes Johanna Rolland, questioned by

Le Figaro

on the subject, during this same press conference.
