Let's face it: we all steal ideas for home design from the IKEA catalogs, we all get excited like children when the annual issue arrives in the mail, we all like to spend long hours in the endless IKEA complexes and we all prefer to burn half a day assembling a cheap table that we packed into the car instead of going to buy an expensive and high-quality one from south Tel Aviv .

The late Ingvar Kamprad, who founded the furniture chain in 1943 (when he was only 17 years old), knew even then what he had in his hands. Today, IKEA has 375 branches in 47 countries and distributes an annual catalog of over 160 million copies worldwide The old catalog covers can be found today in the IKEA online museum. Each cover gives a glimpse of the ultimate home design at that time - and it's certainly intriguing to see what process our house went through over the years. Some of the furniture is completely vintage, the kind you'd be happy to put in your home even today - and some Some of them are really ridiculous and make us question the design taste of previous generations.

So take a comfortable chair from IKEA, one that at some point you got tired of screwing so you switched to glue (it really happened to us), and look at the various covers of the IKEA catalog from 1951 until today, which reveal the hottest trends in interior design of those years.

Why did we stop in 2021?

Well, the global IKEA company dropped a bomb two years ago when it announced that it would no longer publish its famous product catalog.

The IKEA catalog ended its journey at the end of 70 years in which it was compiled and distributed in all the countries where IKEA has branches.

In Israel too, it has become a kind of must-have item in every living room, and in the past it was distributed to mailboxes in mass circulation.

Following the global corona crisis, the company chose to release the 2021 issue also in a digital edition, and then in the company's announcement it was clarified that the catalog will end its journey in all media, including the electronic one: "Customer behavior and media consumption have changed,

and the popularity of the catalog has decreased. Accordingly, IKEA Global has made the decision to end Respecting the legacy of the IKEA catalog and looking to the future with excitement," reads the press release, from which it is not yet clear what the catalog will be replaced with.

Konrad Gross, CEO of Inter IKEA Systems BV, said that "We are not starting from scratch.

We have changed many aspects of the interaction with our customers, and we continue to work hard to find new ways to enhance IKEA's knowledge, products and unique solutions for the home, in new ways, channels and formats."
