In the days before Easter, children and young people sprayed and painted the underpass between the community center and the parish church in Poing.

Totally legal.

Poing - Poing - "Poing Underground" is history: The old graffiti with other motifs and colors all around on the walls of the pedestrian and bicycle underpass under Gruber Straße (near the parish church) is no longer there.

Also the numerous graffiti around it that had been added over the years.

Since Thursday, the underpass has shone in new colors, with new motifs and lettering: a volcano, a beach, a "Love Plaza", a temple landscape and more.

Poing: Workshop with 15 children and young people

15 children and young people between the ages of 11 and 13 redesigned the underpass.

Sprayed and painted, totally legal.

The graffiti workshop that youth worker Julia Stark offered during the Easter holiday program was fully booked within a short time.

Under the guidance of freelance graffiti artist Benjamin Calliari-Herzberg (member of the Munich artist collective "Blauer Vogel"), the girls and boys gave the underpass a great coat of paint.

Graffiti artist leads project

The workshop lasted from Monday to Maundy Thursday, with theory first on the agenda.

What is graffiti anyway?

Why is it illegal and why is what the children and young people are doing here in Poing legal?

What are the penalties for illegal graffiti?

What is art, how does graffiti art even work?

How do you prepare motifs?

How do they get on the wall?

Questions upon questions that were answered at the workshop.

And that have been put into practice.

The holiday program participants drew their motifs on paper in sketches, discussed with Benjamin Calliari-Herzberg whether that would fit or whether something should be changed, and cut out templates.

That was Monday and Tuesday in the community center, which is opposite the church on the other side of the underpass.

Two days of theory, two days of practice

On Wednesday we went to the crime scene.

First, the children and young people painted over the old motifs with paint and rollers.

After the background colors had dried, it was down to the details on Thursday.

Konstantin (12), for example, sprayed a volcano, while Jasper, who was the same age, wrote lettering.

Others designed the corner by the parish church as "Love Plaza".

The course leader had previously agreed with the participants who would paint and spray where and assigned them accordingly.

The result is a colorful and, compared to its predecessor, not quite as wild graffiti that is impressive and of which the young artists are rightly proud.

"Mega!", "Full!", "Super!" are three answers to the question of whether the workshop was fun.

(By the way: Everything from the region is now also available in our regular Ebersberg newsletter.)

In the summer of 2009, "Poing Underground" was also spray-painted on the walls in a workshop.

14 years later, other children and young people have now immortalized themselves.

A great project that would also have its justification for the large, gray railway underpass.

But it is and will remain bare and boring at the request of the municipal council.

And has now been the target of illegal graffiti for the second time.

Poing: Unknown smeared railway underpass

On the weekend before the start of the graffiti workshop, a previously unknown perpetrator defaced the underpass at the S-Bahn station with writing.

The municipality of Poing has filed a complaint.

When the children and young people in the workshop in the underpass about 300 meters to the north had finished and were looking at their colorful work, two older women walked past.

"It's a shame about all the trouble," one of the two said to the other: "In a few days some idiots will definitely have been messing around here too." Hopefully this sentence doesn't come true.
