Hsiao Bi-khim, who serves as an ambassador without having the title, is subject to new restrictions after the meeting between the Taiwanese president and the speaker of the American House of Representatives.

Hsiao Bi-khim, Taiwanese representative in the United States, who acts as ambassador without having the title since Washington does not recognize Taipei, is once again sanctioned by the Chinese authorities.

A New York think tank and Los Angeles library staff are also China's targets, reports the

Guardian

.

These sanctions come after the meeting between Tsai Ing-wen, President of Taiwan, and the Speaker of the American House of Representatives, Kevin McCarthy, in Los Angeles on Wednesday April 5.

The Chinese Office of Taiwanese Affairs decided to condemn the Hudson Institute for hosting Hsiao Bi-khim in New York and presenting him with an award.

The same goes for the Ronald Reagan Library in Los Angeles where the meeting between the representative of Taiwan and Kevin McCarthy was held.

Four US nationals are also on the list, including the president and director of the Hudson Institute, as well as the current director and former director of the Reagan Foundation.

These sanctions prohibit the persons concerned and their family members from setting foot on mainland China, Macau and Hong Kong.

They also prohibit investors and companies linked to the targets from cooperating with mainland organizations and individuals.

"Separatist activities"

China has also accused US institutions and leaders of "

providing a platform and facility to engage in separatist activities related to Taiwan independence

".

Beijing has issued sanctions against a Taiwanese organization, the Prospect Foundation, and the Regional Council of Asian Liberals and Democrats, accusing them of having “done

everything to interfere with anti-China forces

”.

In practice, these sanctions have little impact on Hsiao Bi-khim because senior Taiwanese officials do not travel to China and Chinese courts have no jurisdiction in Taiwan.

This is not the first time that the representative of the island in the China Sea has been targeted by Beijing.

"

Wow, the People's Republic of China has just sanctioned me again, for the second time

," she reacted on Twitter on April 7.

Indeed, last August, Hsiao Bi-khim and six other Taiwanese officials and lawmakers were accused of being "

independence diehards

" after the visit to Taiwan of Nancy Pelosi, then Speaker of the United States House of Representatives. -United.

“Prevent interference”

Beijing considers Taiwan as a Chinese territory to be “

reunified

”, by force if necessary.

Two days after the Taiwanese president's visit, warships, a helicopter and a fighter jet were deployed by China near Taiwan on Friday, April 7, according to Taiwanese Defense and Kevin McCarthy.

The day before, three warships and a Chinese anti-submarine helicopter had also been detected by Taiwan.
