The new story of Marcelo Birmajer: No place is my home

2023-04-07T09:45:45.631Z

A man wants to travel the world without suitcases. He has an idea. But unexpected dangers appear.

Ireneo Kublai bought the ticket to Chile by lightly pressing a key on his personal computer.

He immediately reflected on his Mongol ancestry: they had traveled the world on horseback, and conquered Asia.

At this point in human history, your brief plane ride was accomplished through a virtual transaction.

Ireneo was born in Argentina, after a centuries-long trail that included Chinese, Japanese, and Korean relatives.

His maternal grandmother and his mother were both Argentine.

He was dedicated to the sale of backpacks

and micro-enterprises.

Paradoxically, in recent years, he had been mulling over a project for

tourists to travel without luggage

.

A company that would solve the traveler's clothing and implements, except a backpack.

She hated packing her suitcase, no matter how short the journey.

Calculate the weather, clothing depending on the days and commitments;

pajamas, walking and going out shoes.

But no saving idea came to his aid.

Once again, for his business trip to Chile, he should pack his suitcase.

According to family myth, the Mongol empire had fallen over a woman, the ill-fated love of the last Khan.

But Kublai was betting that his ancestor the Khan had actually grown bored with packing and unpacking on every trip.

Since before their divorce, Ireneo Kublai had decreed that

no place was home

.

She did not feel that she owned the house acquired for her marital failure, nor that of one of his two children -a woman and a man, already self-sufficient-, nor his new bachelor's apartment.

Nor the multiple hotels or temporary rental apartments, in his journey as a working tourist.

But that was not exactly why he needed to find a solution to the hassle of transporting individual luggage from one place to another on the planet.

Although it influenced

He suddenly made the decision to walk to the mall near the Aeroparque, buy his suitcase there, the few clothes he felt he needed, and walk the rest of the way to the Aeroparque, at that very moment, thirty-six hours before his departure.

He would then see how to get back home, before the actual journey.

Somehow, it was an exercise that stimulated his imagination.

How to solve the traveler's hassle?

How to get an individual to board without forcing himself to prepare and load a suitcase?

At the mall, she bought the right clothes.

A couple of blocks from the Aeroparque, she found a bar by the river, and chose a soft seat.

The young waitress kindly took care of him, but Ireneo Kublai discovered at the bar, behind the till, a beautiful woman between forty and fifty years old, with a hospitable and intelligent face, who captured her attention.

The idea flashed into his mind:

the traveler without baggage was possible

.

Unlike the joke about the Khan's boredom with assembling and disassembling the suitcase, the Emperor of the Mongols had never had to pack, Irenaeus told himself in that burst of blissful inspiration: an innumerable number of men and women supplied him.

A valet and transportation would be required at the departure location;

and the same in destiny.

The valet -indistinctly male or female- would be allowed access to the passenger's house, twenty-four hours before the trip.

The bureaucratic procedures with the respective airports for check-in and removing luggage from the carousel were feasible tasks.

The traveler would leave his home without luggage

.

Upon arriving at his temporary accommodation, his clothing and personal items would already be displayed in the room;

also on return.

A relieved smile replaced Irenaeus Kublai's usually grim features.

He didn't want to shout good news or Eureka, because he seemed ridiculous to him.

Instead, he approached the box and

expressed to the captivating forty-year-old

:

- Miss, I want to hire you a service for which of course I am willing to pay.

I wish to leave this suitcase here until tomorrow.

How much would you like to charge me for working as a locker?

The beautiful woman first looked at him suspiciously, but then something in her face lessened the rejection.

Finally, she called an employee: -López, check this suitcase for me.

A muscular waiter, thirty-odd years old, after a complicit look with the woman, took the suitcase to the kitchen.

After a few minutes of uncertainty, he returned with the closed suitcase and nodded to his employer.

The woman introduced herself, her name was Ofelia, and told him the price of that unexpected service.

It was expensive, but accessible to Kublai

.

Ireneo accepted, paid on the spot, and stayed at the bar until she had a free moment.

When Ofelia closed the bar, they left together and spent the night at Ireneo's house.

The next day, in the afternoon, Kublai took the suitcase from Ofelia's bar - they greeted each other like two friends rather than two one-night stands - and walked to the Aeroparque feeling a fullness that he had never known before.

Shortly before boarding, at the security post prior to immigration, the alarms sounded.

They removed Ireneo from the line and, in the small interrogation room, they informed him that he would remain under arrest for attempted smuggling of illegal drugs, in the false bottom of his suitcase.

By thousandths

he was saved from a prison sentence

(although he spent two nights captive);

but he lost a fortune, in lawyers and incentives to ratify his innocence.

He gave up the empire of baggage travel before he had even conquered it.

Once again, the woman had defeated Kublai Khan.
