A Saudi diplomatic delegation arrived in Tehran on Saturday to discuss the reopening of the kingdom's diplomatic representations in the Islamic Republic, the Saudi Foreign Ministry announced.
This visit by Saudi officials comes in "
application of the tripartite agreement
" of March 10 between the two heavyweights in the region and China for the restoration of relations between the two countries after seven years of rupture, said the ministry quoted by the official Saudi agency SPA.
The heads of diplomacy of Iran and Saudi Arabia, Hossein Amir-Abdollahian and Faisal bin Farhane, met Thursday in Beijing to implement the normalization of relations between the two Middle Eastern powers after years of strong tension.
They "
negotiated and exchanged opinions with emphasis on the official resumption of bilateral relations and the steps to be taken towards the reopening of the embassies and consulates of the two countries
", the Saudi Foreign Ministry said.
On Saturday, a Saudi "
technical delegation
" met Iran's chief of protocol at the headquarters of Iran's Foreign Ministry, SPA said.

This Iranian official affirmed "
the readiness and the will of his country to provide all the facilities and the support to help the Saudi delegation in its mission
".
The two countries severed ties in 2016 after protesters in the Islamic Republic attacked Saudi diplomatic missions following Riyadh's execution of a Shiite cleric.

Their rapprochement should be formally celebrated during a visit by Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi to Riyadh, at the invitation of King Salman of Saudi Arabia, a trip planned after Ramadan, at the end of April.
