Hamburg – A major fire broke out in Hamburg-Rothenburgsort early on Easter Sunday morning, April 9, 2023, at around 4:43 a.m.

Initially, only parked refrigerators are said to have burned.

When the Hamburg fire brigade arrived, however, a larger area was already burning.

Despite immediately initiated extinguishing measures, the fire spread to an adjacent warehouse.

This was in full fire in a very short time.

Since the cloud of smoke was moving towards the city centre, residents in downtown Hamburg were also asked to keep windows and doors closed and to switch off the ventilation and air conditioning systems.

Due to the fire, traffic on the S-Bahn line S21 between the Berliner Tor and Billwerder-Moorfleet stops was suspended.

Deutsche Bahn also announces that the tracks between Hamburg and Büchen have to be closed due to the fire.

Further information about the cause and possible damage caused by the fire is not yet known.

According to the NDR, the fire is said to be the largest fire brigade operation in 10 years.

During the extinguishing measures on site, the emergency services noticed that there was a foul-smelling odor in the air.

According to on-site statements, this includes hydrogen sulfide.

This is a highly toxic, colorless and foul-smelling gas.

All emergency services who have to work in the affected area wear protective masks.

It is to be expected that the extinguishing work will continue throughout the day.

It was not until September 26, 2021 that there was a fire in the immediate vicinity.

The career is almost identical.

At that time, smaller devices also burned first before the fire spread to a hall.
