Elisa Carrió's Civic Coalition
supported on Monday the concurrent elections
promoted by Horacio Rodríguez Larreta in the city of Buenos Aires and which on Sunday were rejected by Mauricio Macri and a large part of the PRO.
"In the City of Buenos Aires
we have an electoral code and the best system for the election
of our representatives: Single Ballot (defended by all JxC). Using this voting mechanism is reaffirming our autonomy," Maxi Ferraro tweeted.
In this way, the force of Elisa Carrió
differed from a sector of macrismo
, who came out to reject the initiative, which would benefit Martín Lousteau.
"Since 1996, all the elections for Head of Government were unfolded and only in 2019 was there an exception. The electoral rules are defined by law, they are very clear and must be complied with," added Ferraro.
Meanwhile, it is expected that this noon, nRodríguez Larreta will announce his decision faithful to his style, with a communication through social networks, in the midst of the debate that aroused within the PRO.
Thus, Larreta will cling to the Electoral Code, in its Article 111 of Law 6031 that talks about the "Single Ballot."
"It is established as an instrument of suffrage for the electoral processes of pre-candidates and candidates of political groups to all local elective public offices of the Autonomous City of Buenos Aires, as well as for the citizen participation procedures enshrined in articles 65 , 66 and 67 of the Constitution of the Autonomous City of Buenos Aires, to the Single Ballot, according to the criteria established in this Code".
On Sunday, Mauricio Macri came out to criticize the initiative, he said that he met with Lousteau to talk about the issue and asked not to change the rules of the game months before the elections.
In addition, he argued that the initiative to implement "concurrent elections" in the City is "to go against the neighbors because it is more State spending, it is more voting time."
"For all this and not changing the rules in an election year, which JxC are values that it has put in its declarations of principles, the majority of the PRO disagrees. I don't think Horacio will make that decision, it would go against what we have worked for for years," he said.
Shortly after the ex-president's radical interview, a group of PRO leaders aligned themselves with this position and came out to reject the Buenos Aires president's initiative.
One of them was Jorge Macri, Buenos Aires government minister and candidate for head of government, who stressed that it is an "expensive, complex system that harms people."
"Changing the electoral system a few months after voting can be complex, you have to educate people and authorities. The contestants are not simple or cheap, they are complex and expensive," questioned one of the PRO candidates in the Buenos Aires internal.
In dialogue with Radio La Red, the City official said that this Monday he will meet with the Buenos Aires head of government to discuss the concurrent elections.
Before the meeting, he raised his doubts about the new system that could be implemented.
