Emmanuel Macron, barring an accident, will be President of the Republic for another four years.
However, will his presidency stop with the pension reform?
Is he in the future condemned to manage current affairs?
Postponing the retirement age was a necessity and a campaign promise.
Of course, the list of executive mistakes is long (unnecessary postponements, chaotic communication, too early concessions).
But when it comes to pensions, there is never a good method, a good calendar, a good measure.
There is nothing for power but to assume, to hold firm, not to let itself be impressed by the scale of the processions, the threats of the opposition, the fears of the majority, the invitations to renunciation which are disguised under the appearance of the call to dialogue.
From this angle, Emmanuel Macron and Élisabeth Borne have shown courage.
And, except Trafalgar, this pension reform, even insufficient, will be to their credit.
